How many public holidays will there be for employees in 2025?

1. Labor Law regulations on holidays in 2025

Based on the latest labor law, Clause 1, Article 112 of the 2019 Labor Code regulates employees' holidays as follows: 

1. Employees are entitled to leave from work and receive full pay during the following holidays: 

a) New Year's Day: 01 day (January 1 of the solar calendar) 

b) Lunar New Year: 05 days 

c) Victory Day: 01 day (April 30 of the solar calendar)

d) International Labor Day: 01 day (May 1 of the calendar)

 d) National Day: 02 days (September 2 of the solar calendar and 1 day immediately before or after)

e) Hung King's Death Anniversary: ​​01 day (March 10th of the lunar calendar)

2. Foreign workers working in Vietnam, in addition to the days off as prescribed in Clause 1 of this Article, are also entitled to 01 additional day off for the traditional Tet holiday and 01 day off for their country's National Day.

3. Every year, based on actual conditions, the Prime Minister decides on specific days off specified in Points b and dd, Clause 1 of this Article.

3. How many days off are there for Lunar New Year 2025? 

The first day of the Lunar New Year (At Ty) 2025 will fall on January 29, 2025. 

According to Point b, Clause 1, Article 112 of the 2019 Labor Code, employees are entitled to 5 days of leave with full pay.  The number of days off may be more if the holiday coincides with a weekly day off, the employee will be compensated for the day off. 

The exact 2025 Lunar New Year holiday schedule will be announced by the Prime Minister. 

4. Remaining holidays in 2024 

Up to now, workers still have one holiday on National Day, September 2. Specifically: 

  • According to the provisions of Point dd, Clause 1, Article 112 of the 2019 Labor Code, employees are entitled to leave work and receive full salary for 02 days (September 2 of the calendar and 01 day immediately before or after). 
  • In Official Dispatch 8662/VPCP-KGVX of 2023 on the Lunar New Year holiday and National Day in 2024, issued on November 3, 2023, the Government agreed with the proposal of the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs in Official Dispatch 4594. /LĐTBXH – 2023 Labor Safety regarding the National Day holiday from August 31, 2024 to September 3, 2024. 
  • Thus, the National Day holiday schedule for officials, civil servants and workers will be: 
  • Officials, civil servants and public employees are on leave from August 31 - September 3, 2024
  • Employees are entitled to 02 days off (September 2, 2024 and 01 day immediately before or after).
